Kyoka:

are mad, crazy or wild poems, depending on the translation of the word.


These poems have a long history in Japanese Literature, going in and out of favor sparked by political change and cultural sensibilities in Japan.

English Language kyoka is usually written in five lines, employing 31 syllables or less, with a
5-7-5-7-7 syllable count or less. The rules for kyoka are quite flexible.
